The University Academy After School Program is a part of a collaborative effort between The University of Texas at Tyler Ingenuity Center and local schools. Our award winning program provides a quality experience that has more and more students staying even later in order to take part in the learning and fun.

The University Academy After-School Program:

  • Is a strong cooperative partnership with the school leadership, teachers, school day, campus improvement plan, and campus goals.
  • Provides engaging activities, academic assistance, enrichment, college and career readiness, and family/parent support.
  • Involves lesson planning and engaging activities supervised by highly qualified and energetic personnel committed to the support and development of UA students.
  • Places an emphasis on STEM, PBL (Project Based Learning) and PBIS (Positive Behavior Support Systems).
  • Employs program goals such as improved attitudes towards school, a sense of involvement, improvement in attendance, behavior and grades, promotion to the next grade level, and acquisition of cross curricular skills.
  • Bases the course selection on student Voice and Choice, paired with meeting identified student academic and behavioral needs.

Every participating student has the opportunity:

  • to complete homework in an environment where assistance and encouragement are actively provided.
  • to get intervention based on identified needs.
  • to participate in STEM/PBL based activities.
  • to participate in interest-based enrichment Activities/Programs (robotics, sports, recreational, arts, social, etc.).
  • to develop College and Career Readiness, Cross Curricular Skills, and interest/belief/vision.

 

With the assistance of college work/study tutors, UT Tyler is helping enact the ideals of academic advancement in local areas. The mission is to improve academics, attendance, behavior, promotion rates, graduation rates, college and career readiness and family involvement in student performance. Students active in after school University Academy programs are more likely to attend school, improve in math, reading, science and social study skills, have higher self-esteem and confidence in academic abilities, pass core subjects, complete high school, and have high aspirations for the future. University Academy After School Program/VIP at Boulter Middle School

The University Academy, also known as ACE (After School Centers of Education), is a program dedicated to the education of the young. By targeting the high-need, high-poverty, low-performing schools, University Academy aims to help promote programs to address academic needs, and provide academic assistance along with enrichment opportunities to help students meet academic standards and graduate ready for higher education. The University of Texas at Tyler is working with six local schools: Boulter Middle School Dogan Middle School Hogg Middle School Hubbard Middle School Moore Middle School Stewart Middle School This program also involves family engagement designed to target the improvement of the learning environment at home, research proves family involvement in academics leads to success. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday, examples of these classes are sewing, career building, business-management, scrap-booking, and even such activities as soccer and kick-boxing. Programming Information When your child brings home a packet to fill out, please make sure to complete all sections and sign and initial where asked. Some packets were turned in incomplete and some did not make it to the after school program coordinator. These forms are required for your child’s participation. We are providing After-School Activities, every Monday through Thursday, until 6:15 each day.
  • Activities will not be provided on Fridays.
  • Other days and times will be offered later in the year, including opportunities for family members.
  • On Fridays, regular bus transportation will be provided at 3:30.
  • Car riders and walkers will be dismissed at 4:15 on Monday through Thursday, and at 3:30 on fridays.
We encourage all students to also participate until 6:15 each day, by enrolling in two more sessions each day.

  • Reminder: Activities are only offered Monday through Thursday.
  • Reminder: On Fridays, all students will be dismissed at 3:30.

Students have to fill out choice sheets every six weeks.
